The Tribute.

Oh child with the pleading eyes,
How could they not hear your cries?
What crime had you there placed,
To be defiled, to be debased?
How could they not truly see,
What shrouded your humanity?
How could they inflict such pain,
Locked behind some wire and chain?
To starve, to torture and abuse,
The basic human rights refuse?
Oh, young child with the pleading eyes,
How can we now hear your cries?
Long now has your voice been still,
Buried beneath a man made hill,
Yet that face here all can see,
In this painful legacy,
A mirror to the world of men,
No more now, and not again.

  1. Did you write this poem? If so, well done; wasn't aware you could write poetry. If not, then it's the perfect companion to your art.
